If you have a hyperthyroid condition (i.e. Graves' disease, toxic multinodular goiter), then you probably are aware that most endocrinologists will recommend one of the following 3 treatment options:
Option #1: Take antithyroid medication for 1 or 2 years and pray that you will go into remission.
Option #2: Obliterate the thyroid gland through radioactive iodine.
Option #3: Surgically remove the thyroid gland.
My goal is to try to help as many people with hyperthyroidism avoid options #2 and #3, while trying to find and address the underlying cause. But in order to do this you need to safely manage your hyperthyroid symptoms.
Many people with hyperthyroidism choose to manage their symptoms with antithyroid medication, such as methimazole or PTU. And while this can be very effective in relieving the hyperthyroid symptoms, side effects are very common.
Although many of my patients take medication, when I dealt with Graves' disease in 2008 I chose to take an herbal approach. This can be a great option, but some people don't know what to take, the dosage, etc. In addition, natural agents aren't effective in everyone.
The good news is that there are many different symptom management options, and I will be discussing ALL of them during our FREE 5-day Hyperthyroid Symptom Relief Challenge (starts Monday August 16th!).
